Origins and history
The ensaimada has its roots on the island of Mallorca, where it is believed to have been introduced by Arab confectioners during the Muslim occupation of the region. Its name derives from ‘saïm’, which means butter in Catalan, one of its main ingredients.
Angel hair, on the other hand, has a long tradition in Spanish and Portuguese confectionery, where it has been made since ancient times as part of the celebration of religious festivities.
