This berry, related to the famous Séchuan (also sometimes spelled Sichuan, Szechuan), is not a pepper, botanically speaking. It is a wild berry native to Indonesia, north of the island of Sumatra. It is found in many countries ranging from northern India to southern China.

This berry is also called « pepper » of the Bataks.

Its nose is surprising, strongly lemony, with a nice freshness evoking lemongrass. In the mouth it is slightly spicy with a small anesthetic effect.
